The Nature of a Modern Theocracy

Since we cannot be ruled by God Himself, we would have to be ruled in accordance with His commandments insofar as they are known.

There are three versions of God's commandments: (1) the Old Testament (2) the New Testament (3) The Koran.

The Old Testament will be found too harsh as it has a long list of transgressions (considered very minor these days) that would incur the penalty of death by stoning.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoning  It is thus safe to say that the Old Testament needs updating to avoid all of us being stoned or stoning each other to death.

The New Testament hardly deals with the law at all and mumbles vaguely about loving one's neighbour without defining "neighbour" or "love".

Matthew
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

There is nothing in the New Testament that would make better law than anything that is found in the Old Testament, you will find.

It is only the Koran that contains definite principles that could be made into law, for it even takes the trouble of defining neighbour.

YUSUFALI: Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;-
PICKTHAL: And serve Allah. Ascribe no thing as partner unto Him. (Show) kindness unto parents, and unto near kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and unto the neighbour who is of kin (unto you) and the neighbour who is not of kin, and the fellow-traveller and the wayfarer and (the slaves) whom your right hands possess. Lo! Allah loveth not such as are proud and boastful,
SHAKIR: And serve Allah and do not associate any thing with Him and be good to the parents and to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the neighbor of (your) kin and the alien neighbor, and the companion in a journey and the wayfarer and those whom your right hands possess; surely Allah does not love him who is proud, boastful;

I think it can be easily seen which is the clearer and more satisfying definition of neighbour.  However, it is not too surprising the Koranic version of neighbour is more satisfyingly thorough, since the Koran is meant to be the literal revealed word of God.

The reason why it has not been adopted can be attributed to cultural and racial chauvinism.

"We are Christians, white and wealthy with the nuclear bomb.  They are Muslims, brown and poor who buy their guns from us.  The religion of a bunch of sand niggers has nothing to offer us", the white man thinks.  "They are the backward brown people whose women dress up in black bin bags with slits for eyes who want to blow us up.  There is no need to read the Koran because I already know how much I hate Muslims.  The Koran is also the holy book of people to whom we were once colonial masters.  It is the religion of losers and submitters."

The white man who thinks this should bear in mind that most Muslims read the Koran as much as the average Christian reads his Bible and with probably as much understanding.

The reason why so many Muslims seem to be the basket case backward people they now are is because they don't read the Koran either and allow themselves to be told what it says by imams who don't follow it either.

Got that?

Speaking of definitions, I would argue that a theocracy would not necessarily be ruled by a priestly caste in the 21st century.  A modern 21st century theocracy would simply incorporate Koranic principles into its legal system, with no need to convert a single soul.

"[The term THEOCRACY] was first coined by Josephus Flavius in the first century A.D. to describe the characteristic government for Jews. Josephus argued that while the Greeks recognized three types of government: monarchy, aristocracy, and anarchy, the Jews were unique in that they had a system of government that did not fit into those categories. Josephus understood theocracy as a fourth form of government in which only God and his law is sovereign."

A modern theocracy would not be rule by rabbi but government by the rule of law incorporating the principles of a certain Abrahamic holy book beginning with the letter K or Q ....  http://thevoiceofreason-ann.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-establish-british-clairiphate-in.html describes how to bring it about.

The Koran is model of mercy and reason compared to Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

YUSUFALI: Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.
PICKTHAL: Say: Come, I will recite unto you that which your Lord hath made a sacred duty for you: That ye ascribe no thing as partner unto Him and that ye do good to parents, and that ye slay not your children because of penury - We provide for you and for them - and that ye draw not nigh to lewd things whether open or concealed. And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice. This He hath command you, in order that ye may discern.
SHAKIR: Say: Come I will recite what your Lord has forbidden to you-- (remember) that you do not associate anything with Him and show kindness to your parents, and do not slay your children for (fear of) poverty-- We provide for you and for them-- and do not draw nigh to indecencies, those of them which are apparent and those which are concealed, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except for the requirements of justice; this He has enjoined you with that you may understand.

All the horrible things that people who call themselves Muslims still do, eg stoning people to death, actually comes from the Old Testament!  Yep, these practices came from the Jews.  Remember the stoning scene in LIFE OF BRIAN?  Old Testament, mate, Old Testament.

Now that we are clear, all that needs to be done is for people to read the Koran and tell me which prohibition and requirement they find objectionable, and I will deal with them one by one.
